County Extension Director Wins Awards for Programing

Shawn Banks, the new County Extension Director, won several awards from the North Carolina Association of County Agriculture Agents (NCACAA) for his programing efforts over the past year. Among those awards were a first place award in the Search for Excellence category of Landscape Horticulture for his Gardening A-Z program. The Gardening A-Z program is a set of classes taught in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation department in his former county. These classes taught home gardeners what they needed to know about raising a vegetable garden, from site selection and preparation to pest control and harvesting.

Banks also won several communication awards from the NCACAA, including first place awards for Team Newsletter, Learning Module, and Computer Generated Graphics (presentation). These skills will be a great asset to Carteret County in the coming years.
