I hope everyone is having a great summer so far. We at McDowell 4-H are really missing our traditional 4-H Summer Discovery

Cartoon hiker

program. We hope that you have seen the information about our McDowell Tree Scavenger Hunt, Kids in the Kitchen online cooking class, and our photography contest we have offered so far this summer. Participants can still take part in our Tree Scavenger Hunt.

Today we are introducing our summer hiking initiative. This program is set up to encourage families to get outdoors and experience some of the wonderful trails available to us in McDowell County. There are countless trails in our county but I am attaching a list of some of these opportunities. We encourage families to get out and social distance in the great outdoors. We are asking that you send a picture of you and your family on the trails to chad_ray@ncsu.edu. For any family that hikes 5 or more trails in McDowell County, we will send you a great prize. There is no registration. Just a picture of you or your family on each trail and please note which trail it is. As mentioned before there are numerous trails in our beautiful county so you are not limited to just the trails linked below. Remember to drink lots of water and have a great time doing this! If you have any questions please let me know. Deadline to submit your pictures is August 14, 2020.
