A delegation of seven North Carolina 4-H youth and three adults attended National 4-H Congress, which was held in Atlanta, Georgia. The North Carolina delegation returned home from five days in which more than 800 youth and adults representing 4-H programs across the country gathered to engage in leadership, citizenship, global awareness, and inclusion events and activities. One of the highlights in the life of every 4-H member is the opportunity to attend National 4-H Congress.

This year’s schedule included workshops designed to develop 4-H’ers leadership skills, plenary sessions with outstanding speakers and entertainers, and a Service-Learning experience during which delegates participated in a hands-on service project. The agenda also included time for tours and recreational opportunities throughout the city. Four North Carolina 4-H’ers served in leadership roles at the conference. Lance Williams (Franklin County 4-H’er) served as a Youth Leadership Team Member, Meredith Potter (Franklin County 4-H’er) served as the state Flag Bearer, and Valerie Suedbeck (Pitt County 4-H’er) performed as a 4-H Congress Teen Entertainer. In addition, Guillermo Estrada (2021 delegate and  Wayne County 4-H’er) served on the conference Design Team.

National 4-H Congress, a 4-H tradition for 101 years, was initially designed to recognize state and national winners. As the 4-H program has changed to meet the needs of youth today, so has National 4-H Congress. North Carolina 4-H youth are selected to attend this trip through the AIRE process.
