Collapse ▲Red and White Week (October 26 – November 2, 2025) is NC State’s annual homecoming celebration and we want to bring the fun right here to Carteret County with our 4-H’ers in mind. “Why celebrate,” you may ask? Well, here’s why!
4-H is the youth development arm of the Cooperative Extension Service. The Morrill Acts of 1862 and 1890 outlined a mission to teach agriculture, military tactics and mechanic arts to the public through the universities it would establish. North Carolina has two land grant universities – NC State University and NC A&T State University. Later, with the Smith-Lever Act of 1914, the Cooperative Extension Service was formally established, extending university-level knowledge directly to the people in their local communities and we are still doing just that!
4-H is delivered by the Cooperative Extension Service – “a community of more than 100 public universities that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. For more than 100 years, 4‑H has welcomed young people of all beliefs and backgrounds, giving kids a voice to express who they are and how they make their lives and communities better.”
We are always looking for a reason to have some fun so why not celebrate Carteret County 4-H’s connection to one of North Carolina’s very own land grant universities with Red and White Week?
