Carteret County’s Family and Consumer Science and 4-H programs are excited to partner with Carteret County Parks and Recreation to sponsor the Speedway to Healthy exhibit.

The Speedway to Healthy exhibit is a 1,200 square foot walk-through exhibit representing the human body with eleven “pit stops” that feature fun, educational activities focused on healthy lifestyle choices. Fourth grade students from across the county are invited to come and learn for FREE!

The exhibit will be set up at the Crystal Coast Civic Center from Tuesday, January 27 through January 29, 2026 and is open to all public, private and charter schools and homeschooled 4th grade students in Carteret County. Due to limited spacing, only 10 students can be at a pit-stop at one time so we ask that only 4th grade students and their teacher/parent attend. To find out more information about the exhibit and register, please complete the Interest Forms, listed below, by Friday, December 5. Participants must register to attend the event

Volunteers are vital to the success of Speedway to Healthy. How can you help?

  • Set Up and Break Down Volunteers are needed to construct the exhibit on Monday, January 26 and take it back down on Friday, January 30.
  • Presentation Volunteers are needed to teach 5-minute lessons in the pit-stops of the exhibit. Volunteers will need to attend a virtual training prior to teaching. Lessons will be provided for volunteers. Pit stops include: the starting line, brain, mouth, stomach, small intestine, heart, lungs, kidneys, bones, muscles, and skin.
  • Related Businesses and Organizations are invited to set up informational booths inside the Civic Center. Students and teachers will have the opportunity to visit booths while they await their turn in the exhibit. Businesses and organizations will be asked to provide any pamphlets or take-home items ahead of time so that they can be added to bags that will be sent home with the students.
  • Can’t attend, but still want to help – call our office at 252-222-6375 or email us. coleman_killinger@ncsu.edu or stephanie_stevenson@ncsu.edu
