Enjoying Spring Flowers Inside and Outdoors

While April is the month when we have an overabundance of flowers to choose from, there are still plenty of them out there now. Consider cutting a few to bring in for a centerpiece or just to enjoy indoors in a small container for a few days.

When cutting flowers to bring indoors, select those that are just starting to open up. Cut them early in the morning while it’s still cool outside, and put them directly into water so they don’t dry out. Change the water in the vase daily with fresh cool water. These steps will help the flowers last longer in a vase. One other tip would be to put them in a bright area that is not in direct sunlight.

If you are giving or receiving plants on this special day, some can be planted outside to be enjoyed for years to come. Select a spot that has the proper sunlight requirements for the plant and remember that water is going to be super important for at least the first 12 months, while the plant gets established in its new location. Watering once or twice a week should be enough, unless the plant shows signs of wilting, then it may need more water.
