With summer here many of us are drawn to the swimming pool. Whether it is a big pool for big people or a little pool for little people, these pools will often draw in insects that need water to live. Two non-native invasive species that haven’t been seen in North Carolina yet are also attracted to pools, they are the Asian longhorned beetle and the spotted lanternfly.
Invasive Species and Poolside Pests
(Updated: March 18, 2024, 11:20 a.m.)
The Plant Industry Division of N.C. Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, NC Forest Service and NC State Extension are working together to put together a program titled ‘Poolside Pests’, which will help to detect these two insects early and help to keep them out of our area or at least under control so they don’t spread quite as fast. It's fast and easy to report any sightings.
