Pansies and violas will stay green throughout the winter and bloom almost anytime the temperatures are in the 60’s or above. They provide some delightful color through the colder months and serve as a reminder that even in the cold months, there are flowers to brighten our day. The flowers are also edible and make a nice garnish when dipped in sugar water and left on some waxed paper to dry.
If a splash of color is desired closer to the porch, then consider creating some colorful pots with pansies and violas that can be moved around. Small pots of flowers can be moved into the sun most days to grow and flourish, and then moved to the porch or patio when company comes to brighten up areas where people will see them the most.
