DIY Raised Bed Row Cover

(Updated: Oct. 27, 2021, 11:01 a.m.)

Join Shawn Banks, Extension Agent - Horticulture, for another episode of Extension Gardener on the Crystal Coast as he builds a row cover over a raised bed.

This video walks through the steps of building a frame to use to hold a row cover over a raised bed to keep the insects out of the bed while allowing the rain and sunlight to nourish the plants. A sheet of plastic could also cover this frame using the same clamps to give added frost protection and/or warm up the bed earlier in the spring for an early crop. The materials used include: 10-foot lengths of 1/2 inch PVC pipe, 2-inch clamps, 1 ½-inch screws and a 10-foot-wide row cover cut to the length needed for your bed. The tools needed to complete the job include: a drill with drill bits and a driver bit, a tape measure, and a pair of scissors.

When you have all the materials together it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to assemble the hoop house row cover.
