Collapse ▲Small farms often fail simply because the owner does not develop a good business and marketing plan prior to initiation. Other reasons for failure include attempting to do too much, expanding existing operation too fast, or insisting that farming is a “lifestyle’ not a business. All of these mistakes can be avoided and chance of success increased by participating in NC Farm School.
This fee-based program occurs over several weeks and includes classroom instruction, tours, discussion groups with existing farmers, and instruction from N.C. Cooperative Extension personnel or invited guests. The goal of the class is to aid the business in developing a personalized farm plan, provide one-on-one consultations, and develop a network of key resources.
Applications are now being accepted for 2024 NC Farm School classes. Cost of the program is $350 per individual or $550 per double registration. Classes are available for four locations that include, Randolph Iredell, Edgecombe, and Johnston counties Tours will occur monthly at various farm locations is surrounding counties.
