Fruits, nuts, and most berry plants have woody stems that will need to be pruned between now and March when they begin to leaf out or flower. I don’t have any that I need to prune in my yard, but if you do, then prune them to open the canopy and allow more light and air circulation into the center of the plant. Opening up the canopy is a big part of creating more fruit on the plants.
My little vegetable garden on the other hand will get some attention this year. Late in January, I will plant garden peas that will be trained on a trellis. The rest of the garden will get worked on in February, when it’s time to plant other spring crops.
