Pruning tools are the implements to sharpen for trees, shrubs and flowers.  It may not take much effort to cut through the soft stem of herbaceous perennials to bring in a cut flower from the garden, but a sharp pruning tool will make a clean cut rather than crushing the stem making it easier for the stem to take up the water it needs to keep the flower looking fresh and pretty.

When cutting those long stem roses with the woody stems, it’s much easier with a sharp pruner than with a dull one. A good pruning tool with really hard steel will hold an edge for a long time. Like an excellent kitchen knife, when kept fine-tuned with a honing tool, the knife may not need to be sharpened for a long time. Running the pruning tools over a honing instrument like a wet stone every now and then will keep the blade sharp and ready for use whenever it is needed.

Another tool that may need sharpening is the shovel that was mentioned in the vegetable garden section. As spring is often the time when gardeners find a flowering tree or shrub they simply must have for their yard, a shovel will be needed. An already sharpened shovel will make digging that hole much easier and your back will thank you.
