If you haven’t already taken the time to prune those azaleas that flowered so beautifully in April, now is the time to get that done. The sooner they are pruned after flowering the more flower buds they can set for next year. This is because they will be able to put on some new growth before flower bud production begins in July. This also goes for other early spring flowering shrubs.

Now that spring leaves have appeared on the trees, it’s a great time to look for any dead limbs that need to be pruned out. I have a hydrangea that has been gorgeous the last three years, but for some reason, probably cold injury, there are a lot of dead limbs that need to be removed from the plant before all the new leaves cover up the dead limbs and they get forgotten until next spring.
