**Peak-season soil testing will soon be in effect. Get your fall samples in now, to avoid the $4 per sample fee charge from December 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022.
Submit your soil samples to the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Agronomic Services lab in Raleigh early to avoid the peak season fee a soil information form is included with your sample. The other times of the year, outside peak-season, soil testing service is free. For more info, contact the Agronomic Services Division at 919-664-1600 or your local Extension office.
It's October, which means the weather should be cooling down and time to plant trees and shrubs is right around the corner. Before planting trees and shrubs that will be in the same place for several years it's a great idea to have your soil tested or analyzed to see if the pH and nutrient levels are where they need to be. Rather than write it all down, I made a short video (around 7 minutes) to show how this should be done.
