Workshop Growing Fall Vegetables Sept 22

We are getting to the tail end of when we can plant cool season crops like lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, and others, but if we act quickly, it may not be too late.  Having them in the ground before the middle to the end of September gives these crops enough time to mature enough to harvest before the frost arrives in our area.

If you would like to learn a little about growing cool season vegetables and how to extend the season for a few extra days to weeks this fall, plan to come to a presentation at the Western Branch of the Carteret County Public Library System on Monday, September 22 at 5:30. We will talk about cool season vegetables, how to grow them, and how to extend the season using row covers to protect the plants from an early frost.

Growing a few plants in containers is a good way for someone with limited space to grow a few vegetables on a patio or deck. Container gardens often need more water, but they may be easier to maintain for people who have difficulty getting down on the ground to plant or harvest. I grow some of my vegetables in containers for that very reason.
